A few pieces of outdoor furniture can quickly give a new look to any patio or yard. When it’s time to go shopping it’s important to get something that you won’t be able to replace. At least for a couple of years. Look for furniture that is going to last you a long time and will tie the whole place together. Like the rug that “The Dude” from “The Big Lebowski” valued so much, he got himself into all sorts of trouble for it. You don’t have to go out on the wildest adventure of your life, searching for the perfect outdoor seating. The first thing you need to determine is the material of your outdoor furniture. You can choose from wicker and rattan, wrought iron and steel or plastic and aluminium. All of them have their pros and cons, so let’s go over them. Wicker and rattan are very comfortable materials, but they do require to be weatherproofed from time to time. Wrought iron and steel are durable materials, but they can get rusty, so they need treatment against it. Plastic and aluminium are lightweight materials that are really cheap and they are resistant to all weather conditions, but they need to be secured when winds pick up.

Once you have the outdoor seating, it’s time to take care of it so it can last you longer. Wicker and rattan only require a quick vacuuming and you’re done. If rust starts show up on steel and wrought iron, all you have to do is brush it down with a bit of sandpaper. Plastic and aluminium require the least bit of maintenance. Just get a towel, soap and some water. Wipe them down and they will look like the day you bought them. Cushions and other textiles can be washed and they need to be dusted every once in a while.
